  • Put to light/put walls: These systems signal warehouse associates which bin to place items on a gridlike wall, based on a lighted display.
  • Voice picking: Workers use a headset and a connected mobile device to receive step-by-step instructions on how to fulfill an order, including bin locations and confirming the action in a dialog with the software.
  • Cycle count scanners and drones: Drones with mounted sensors that read RFID tags fly within a warehouse to perform cycle counts. Advanced scanning systems use existing material handling equipment like forklifts to capture inventory data faster than a drone setup.
  • Automated guided vehicles (AGV) and autonomous mobile robots (AMR): AGVs are robots that follow an embedded track in a warehouse or use sensor-based navigation to move goods or aid in order picking and other fulfillment tasks. AMRs are a step up from AGVs, with more intelligent, i.e., autonomous, LIDAR-directed navigation capabilities.
  • Loading/unloading robots: Robotic arms with suction devices load and unload trailers autonomously in a shipping/receiving bay.
  • Picking robots: intelligent robotic arms that can pick individual items and place them in totes or chutes to complete orders for packing and shipping.
  • Goods-to-Person (GTP) and AS/RS: an automated system transports items in totes via conveyors or a shuttle-based grid system to workstations, where associates pick and complete orders, then send them on to packing and shipping.
